IN SHORT... What, EXACTLY does God say about human sacrifice in the TaNaCH? In Deuteronomy 12:30-31, God calls Human sacrifice something that He hates, and an abomination to Him, "for every abomination to the Eternal, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods. In Jeremiah 19:4-6, God tells us that Human sacrifice is so horrible a concept to Him, that it did not even come into His mind to demand it from His creation, "They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind." We see the same thing in Psalm 106:37-38, and in Ezekiel 16:20. This means that God would not accept Jesus's death on the cross as a blood sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. The very idea of that God would accept a human sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins is UnBiblical.
A FULL EXPLANATION...
The Christian idea of the messiah is that Jesus was the blood sacrifice that saves everyone from his or her sin. But who, EXACTLY died on that cross? If it was Jesus-the-god, then how can God die? If it was only Jesus-the-human, then all Christians have in the death of Jesus is a human sacrifice. And what, EXACTLY does God say about human sacrifice in the TaNaCH?



In Deuteronomy, God calls Human sacrifice something that He hates, and an abomination to Him!



Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the Eternal thy God: for every abomination to the Eternal, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods. [Deuteronomy 12:30-31]



In Jeremiah, God tells us that Human sacrifice is so horrible a concept to Him, that it did not even come into His mind!



Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents; They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind: Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Eternal, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but The Valley of Slaughter. [Jeremiah 19:4-6]



We see the same thing in Psalm 106 and in Ezekiel 16:



Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. [Psalm 106:37-38]



Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter? [Ezekiel 16:20]



And yet we are to then turn around and believe that God changed His mind, and required human sacrifice, and then it was the sacrifice of His own human son that God wanted? After telling the Jews to stay away from pagan practices, and pagan beliefs, God then changes His mind and says, "Okay, now go ahead and believe in a human sacrifice, just as these very pagans believe?"



The Christian definition of the term, Messiah, is closer to the pagan notion of a dying/saving god or hero than to the Jewish understanding of Messiah. The ancient world is filled with examples. Mithra, Adonis, Dionysis, Attis, Ra, and many others were born in the Winter, died in the Spring, and came back to life. Along with this, they believed that their followers would not die, but have immortal life, since the death of the hero/god acted as their sacrifice for their sins. The pagan world was filled with gods who were the product of a human mother and a god for the father. Even Hercules had Zeus for a father, and a human mother.



When the earliest Christians would come into the synagogues and missionize, they would get kicked out. They were not allowed to stay and preach, they were rejected, because their message was pagan, was recognized as such by the Jews, and they were removed and separated from the Jewish people as a result. This shows the real reason why Judaism and Christianity separated from each other. It also shows that one cannot be a Jew and a Christian at the same time.


The Nicene Christian Concept of "the Blood"

There are some Nicene heresies that are so deeply rooted in the Christian psyche that for those seeking authentic biblical religion getting beyond them is very difficult, even with the Light of Torah. One of these is the "Blood of Jesus" dogma. The famous Christian hymn declares this central Nicene dogma clearly:



What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me white as snow?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.




The Nicene dogma of "the blood atonement" causes many to question and even reject the clear word of Torah! Some even claim that the Torah of HaShem has been "nailed to the cross" and made irrelevant! However the books of the B'rit Hadashah (New Testament) also disprove this common heresy. As authentic Messianic Jews this is very important to understand.



The Bible Clarifies Everything:


Deuteronomy 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers:every man shall be put to death for his own sin.



That this truth has never changed is made clear by Rav Paul who said:
Galatians 6:5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
Iit has always been this way:
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall dieThe son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the sonthe righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.



As there are two impulses that drive the human race: yetzer tov and yetzer ra. As Prophet Ezekiel says, the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. The idea of an atonement in the Nicene sense would completely undermine this vital human responsibly and denigrate the very purpose of human existence.



The notion that another person might bear our sins for us is ridiculed by Prophet Micah when he says:
Micah 6:6 Wherewith shall I come before Adonai, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?
6:7 Will Adonai be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 
6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth Adonai require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

This is a clear rejection of this teaching.



Our Rebbe said the same thing:
Matthew 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

He does not say that by acceptance of his death thou shalt be justified, and by rejection of his death thou shalt be condemned.



And Rav Paul confirms:
Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.



As James the Elder warns:
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?.....
2:24 
Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
2:26 
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.




Friends, each of us will give an accounting to HaShem for our actions, for our choices between yetzer tov and yetzer ra.
Deuteronomy 4:40 Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which Adonai thy God giveth thee, for ever.



You and I are responsible for our actions, be they positive or negative. No one else can answer for nor for atone for our sins. The Bible is clear on this.
Of course HaShem is merciful and Rebbe Y'shua serves as our Cohen Gadol (High Priest and Mediator: I Timothy 2:5) when we fall short.

What About the Blood of the Lamb?

We are commanded to "rightly divide the Word of truth" (II Timothy 2:15). From the above verses and scores of others it is evident we are responsible for our own actions. Rightly dividing the Word of Truth requires us to seek harmony in the Scriptures. We know therefore that whatever this phrase means it must be harmonious with Torah and other Scriptures. As usual, context reveals all.
These passages must be understood in context. Here's an oft cited one:
Revelation 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
In context this verse is discussing the martyrs that will lay down their lives during the Tribulation Period rather than submit to the coming global despot (the Antichrist). The previous verses tell us that this is a select group of people comprised of "a great multitude of Goyim" and 144,000 righteous Jews (12,000 Israelites from each of the twelve Houses of Israel).
Of these people we read:
Revelation 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
These people come out of the tribulation period as martyrs. These are those who heed Moshiach's call and flee the emerging Babylon Great united global religion and economic system (Revelation 3:20).



Why will they choose martyrdom? Again, context reveals all.
Revelation 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held
"The blood of the Lamb." Messianic Jewish martyrs share in Rebbe Y'shua's sufferings and in his death. By this act of faith their garments are made white and they are purified (James 5:10, 11). This is especially true of these End Time martyrs. As they are instructed:
Revelation 3:18 I [Rebbe Y'shua] counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

These are they who repent and come out of the Pagan-based Nicolaitian system at the End of Days. They embrace the Truth and willingly accept martyrdom to the glory of HaShem.



Hebrews 11:38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth....
Again these same people are referenced in similar terms here:
Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.




These passages are referring to the End Time martyrs who will embrace death rather than betray the Rebbe and coming melekh (king) of Israel. They pour out their blood even as he poured out his.



The Symbolism of Blood

Why blood?
Genesis 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Blood in Scripture represents life. The life force is contained within the blood. This idea is central to all Middle Eastern peoples and is in keeping with modern medical understanding in many ways. Blood is the 'juice of the vine of life,' hence the wording contained within the Erev Shabbat Kiddush:
Ba-ruch a-tah, A-do-nai,
E-lo- hei-nu me-lech ha-o-lam,
bo-rei p'ri ha-ga- fen. (Amen) .

Blessed are You Adonai our God
King of the Universe
Who creates the fruit of the vine




This blessing is about more than wine, it is giving praise to HaShem for the life's blood that makes material existence possible.
Recall that Moshe warned Pharaoh that his failure to repent and humble himself before HaShem would result in Adonai turning the waters of Egypt into blood (Exodus 4:9)!
Such a powerful symbol that the life blood of Egypt (the Nile River), the source of their culture and existence, would suffer because of his refusal to acknowledge HaShem's authority and might! Blood as metaphor is common throughout Torah.
Exodus 29:12 And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar.



So now we can grasp that the sacrifices were intended to reflect how the blood (the life force) of the animals was being shed on our behalf. When making sacrifices the Israelites were to be cognizant of the pouring out of innocent life due to their sins against HaShem. This was intended to shame them into tshuvah (repentance). Grasp this significant quote from Rabbi Yaakov Feldman of the NISHMA JOURNAL
Tshuvah is often misunderstood. Rather than an unfortunately necessary response to our weaknesses, tshuvah is the very life- blood of Torah. It is the power that enables this world to be our platform for growth, for development, and for change.



As Meshiykhiyyim (authentic Messianic Jews) we affirm that Rebbe Y'shua is the Word of HaShem (John 1:1): the metaphorical embodiment of Torah. The literal life blood of this "Torah" was shed as our Rebbe bled and died on the starous (execution stake). In an act of utter tshuvah he laid down his life even as we are called to lay down ours in order that we, as he, might be one with HaShem:
John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.
I John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.



Such symbolism is not (generally) meant to b taken literally and yet we all may be called upon to make this blood sacrifice, this pouring out of our lives.
Leviticus 3:17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.



This symbolic sanctity is observed and remembered in the Kosher laws that forbid our eating life, the blood. We are allowed to consume the flesh of clean creatures, but not their life force, which is in the blood.



Why is this?
Leviticus 6:30 And no sin offering, whereof any of the blood is brought into the tabernacle of the congregation to reconcile withal in the holy place, shall be eaten: it shall be burnt in the fire.
Iits because ALL life exists in the hands of Adonai. All life is sacred and utterly dependent on HaShem alone.
Deuteronomy 32:39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
HaShem alone is our Savior and our Redeemer. It is solely by His Mercy that we exist and move and have our being. HaShem interacts with the material creation in various ways. Chief among these is through His anointed Moshiach, our Rebbe.
